Lets not get onto Bomber Harris on this thread, lets talk about Hugh Dowding and Keith Park who were the real architects in the success of the BoB

Sir Arthur 'Bomber' Harris. To be fair to him, he more than backed up his words with actions.

Which unfortunately led to a loss rate (killed) of nearly 45%, amongst the brave Bomber Command crews.

Re: Battle of Britain day
Get it right Eddie you sap... the actual quote was...

The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw, and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.

People often do Churchill a dis service and ignore his early (pre wars) domestic political career. A major driving force in improving things for the poor, including the first knockings of a welfare statate.

If you go to the Cabinet War Rooms and Churchill Museum, this early part of his career is well documented, with excellent audio visuals.

Re: Battle of Britain day
It's good though that you absolve Churchill of all blame for the strategic air war against Germany in general and Dresden in particular. Or were they not military matters?

Don't tell me, the Jewes are the men that will not be blamed'. Or something.

'Military decisions of any note were made by the MILITARY.'

Erm... no they weren't.

Because you were there, weren't you.

Re: Battle of Britain day
Erm, no.

He overruled the military many times - and for that matter ordered them to carry actions they weren't too keen on (such as the attack on the French fleet at Oran). Also, of course, he chose the generals.

He was obsessed by the idea of the 'soft underbelly of Europe' which fucked up royally in both World Wars

Re: Battle of Britain day
Agreed, deffers.

He WAS a cunt of a man.

He may also have been a good frontman but I think it's nonsense to suggest that without him Britain was fucked.

Military decisions of any note were made by the MILITARY.

A great leader but a cunt of a man.

He was a cunt in many ways but what a leader in a time of crisis, I can't think of anyone at the time who would have done better?
